There’s more to penguins than ice, not flying, and fish. Get an in-depth look into the lives of the zoo's Magellanic penguins, as a member of the zoo’s knowledgeable education team teaches you everything you've wanted to know about how penguins live in the wild and how we keep these adorable animals happy and healthy at the El Paso Zoo. Watch these unique birds zoom through the water to catch fish as zookeepers feed them their dinner.

The Magellanic penguin’s common name comes from the Straits of Magellan, a series of waterways at the southern tip of South America, where this species of penguin is found.

Magellanic penguins are known for their monogamous, long-lasting partnerships, with some pairs staying together for many years.
