Join us to kick off Insect Night with "Insects and the Mimbres: Bugs, Culture and Traditions" a lecture by Sammi Burke!
✨Learn about the cultural significance of insects within the Mimbres Mogollon culture of southwest New Mexico (AD 1000-1150). Insects play important roles in Pueblo oral traditions, ceremonies, and even architecture.
Sammi Burke is currently a graduate assistant in the Anthropology Department of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She is applying her background in archaeology and entomology to conduct interdisciplinary research over arthropod imagery, symbolism, and ritualist utilization within prehistoric American Southwestern cultures.
