Come and learn interesting information about the Galapagos tortoise.
The Zoo’s oldest resident, Mr. Potato Head, a 75-year-old Galápagos tortoise. He is a Volcán Alcedo giant tortoise, a species native to the Alcedo Volcano on Isabela Island in the Galápagos. The El Paso Zoo supports global conservation efforts like the Galápagos Tortoise Movement Ecology Program, which helps scientists track tortoise movements to better understand their ecology and inform future conservation strategies.
In the wild, Galapagos tortoises can live for over 100 years, possibly up to 200 years. Their lifespans in zoos are the same as in the wild.
